Hudson: Prospect Park

Prospect Park, located in Hudson, Wis., is an existing park overlooking downtown Hudson and the St. Croix River. The following conceptual images envision how the park can become a larger asset to the community while sustaining the natural beauty of the site. The park is in close proximity to downtown Hudson and many residential neighborhoods. Multi-use buildings and athletic fields would be added to the park to enhance park activities. Extensive planting will seperate the active areas from the passive aspects of the park (trails, overlooks). The park would become a pivitol and central recreational spot in Hudson. Thus, one would not need to drive a great distance to enjoy outdoor recreation, or take a quiet scenic stroll.

The existing open spaces would become multi-use athletic fields, a little league ballpark with grandstand that could also act as a bandshell for live entertainment. Additional existing open spaces would incorporate a swimming pool, multi-use building, putting green, ice skating rink, and warming house. The extensive use of trees and shrubs would seperate each venue to create privacy. The site benefits from an existing underground cistern that would be exposed and become an Interpretive Center. On top of the cistern would be an Event Center with an overlook of the St. Croix. The exisitng passive aspects of the park, would be retained, but enhanced thru increased overlook areas and an expanded trail system that would link to the downtown area.
